Lyre River and Nelson Creek North Olympic Land Trust (NOLT) Acquisition and Restoration Project
TRI_0109
The intent and goal of the acquisition was for restoration, conservation, and protection in perpetuity of this parcel of critical habitat, which includes the nearshore migration corridor for ESA-listed Puget Sound chinook salmon and other ESA salmon and steelhead species. The protection of this parcel of land also benefits Washington Coast chinook, Pacific Coast chum, Olympic Peninsula coho, Olympic Peninsula steelhead as well as bulltrout and cutthroat habitat. A goal of the acquisition was not only to protect the habitat but also to restore and enhance it as well. A component of that restoration includes the removal of an abandoned house located in the nearshore habitat, assessment and treatment of the area for invasive species, and re-vegetation.
