Hansen Creek Property Acquisition
TRI_0132
The Skagit River System Cooperative, working on behalf of the Swinomish Tribal Community and the Sauk-Suiattle Indian Tribe, have been working for over a decade to implement the Hansen Creek Watershed Plan in partnership with Skagit County, The Upper Skagit Indian Tribe, The Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group and Puget Sound Energy. A significant portion of this plan calls for the restoration of a historic channel for Hansen Creek through Reach 5 of the management planning area. The goal of this proposal is to acquire key floodplain parcels that will allow for the restoration of natural floodplain processes along Hansen and Red Creeks. By adding these properties to the Hansen Creek Conservation Area we intend to set the final pieces in place that will make the Hansen Creek Reach 5 Channel Restoration Project a reality. Thereby, greatly improving habitat conditions for salmonids and eliminating the need for ongoing flood control and dredging activities in Reach 5 of Hansen Creek.
